The Polish Minister of National Defence Bogdan Klich (Civic Platform - PO) has said that this week may be crucial to the process of negotiations with Washington regarding the installation of the American anti-missile defence system in Poland.

 Klich told Polish Radio 3 on Tuesday that two important meetings would be held regarding the issue this week.

 The Defence Minister said that contrary to opinion expressed by opposition MPs and the media, the current government had maintained the negotiation position assumed by the previous cabined headed by Jaroslaw Kaczynski. 

 One of the key demands upheld by Poland is the USA’s engagement in the modernisation of the Polish forces, especially air forces and air defence systems.

 Bogdan Klich also revealed on the radio that Warsaw and Prague had assumed two different strategies in negotiations with Washington, but he said that the Polish and Czech governments had been in touch and exchanged their opinions regarding their respective negotiation progress. (mj)
