Former PM Jaroslaw Kaczynski says that the Czech government is far advanced in their negotiations on the anti-missile shield than is the Polish administration.

"They are on the right track," commented the leader of Law and Justice (PiS) Jaorslaw Kaczynski on the announcement of the Czech government that they want to conclude the negotiations on the deployment of the US anti-missile shield in their country by the end of this week.

"We had a chance to choose a similar track and I think that we still have it," said the former PM during a press conference. "I hope that Donald Tusk will make use of this chance."

The former PM made clear that if he was still in power Poland would be close to finalising details, too.

The Polish Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, retorted that it is no wonder that the Czech Republic is at a more advanced stage of the talks with the United States, as there was a change of government after the autumn elections in Poland and it took some time before the new government got acquainted with the details of the negotiations and consulted NATO and Poland's neighbours.

The foreign minister also stressed that the Czech Republic had a different negotiation position from the start, as the Czechs do not want help from the United States to strengthen their defence capability. (mo)
