Seems like Foreign Minister Sikorski is flexing his muslces in the U,S, as he prepares to meet Cheney and other war criminals to discuss the missile system.

WASHINGTON (Associated Press) — Poland's foreign minister Radek Sikorski on Thursday accused Russia of blackmail for making threats aimed at derailing plans to allow the U.S. to install missile defense interceptors on Polish territory.

Sikorski said any deal with the United States must include additional help in bolstering Poland's security.

Russia has stridently opposed the missile defense plan and has threatened to retarget nuclear missiles at Poland to counter what it sees as a U.S. attempt to undermine its military deterrent. The United States says the proposed system is intended to protect Western countries from missiles fired from Iran and would be impotent against Russia.

Sikorski did not specifically name Russia in accusing it of blackmail, but it was clear from the context of his speech which nation he was referring to.

"Poland has come under political pressure and has even been blackmailed by some of our neighbors who fiercely oppose this project," Sikorski said in a speech at the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank where he once worked.

Sikorski is meeting senior U.S. officials including Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Defense Secretary Robert Gates during his first visit as a minister in Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government.
